The Mt. Greylock baseball team started off a promising season with a 12-3 win over the Mount Everett Eagles on Monday April 13. With a team packed full of seniors, the Mounties hope to take advantage of the abundant experience from the upperclassmen, while keeping in mind the bright future that the underclassmen hold. Senior captain and starting second baseman, Dan Flynn, says that the main goal this year is, “Obviously [first] to make the tournament, but this year we’re looking to go all the way to states,” he then added, “We have the talent, it’s just the will to win.” Luckily, Mt. Greylock is one of the teams in the league that didn’t suffer much, coming out this year as one of the stronger teams in the county. Senior captain and starting pitcher, Ian Brink says that, “As long as everybody stays out of trouble and comes ready to work, we’ll have a great season.” Regarding positions, Brink said, “nothing’s locked up as of right now,” he also said that to have a successful season, “everybody has to step up; the seventh, eighth, and ninth batting spots have to come out big.”

Additionally, the team has a strong bond, they are all close. The bond of the players extends beyond the playing field. Senior, Delaney Pudvar, led the team with his batting average last year and returned this year as the lead off center fielder. Pudvar stated that this year,  “the team will be more aggressive at the plate.”

The team came out strong against Mt. Everett. Brink pitched the first few innings; with a lot of prior concern regarding his shoulder, he came out strong and steady and will have a promising season pitching for the Mounties.The team looks to improve on situational plays. Pudvar said, “As long as we can keep away from pop flies and stay aggressive I think we will be good from here on out.” As of May 6, the teams record is 9-1, with an important win against the previously top-ranked West Springfield. The Mounties next scheduled game is for Thursday, May 7 against Wahconah High School. With the talent the team possesses, Greylock Baseball will be looking to go all the way in 2015.
