High Hopes for Volleyball
After an exciting 2014 season, the Mt. Greylock Varsity Volleyball team is thrilled to dive into this year’s season. Coming off of last year’s impressive regular season with a record of 12-6, and then some success in the Western Mass semi-final playoffs, the team is preparing both mentally and physically for a continuation to this success. A few of the girls, including juniors Dagny Albano and Carly Munzer, spent the summer going to various training camps to hone their ability and improve their fitness in anticipation of a strong, dynamic season. When asked to comment on the upcoming games, team coach John Albano said that, “due to the restructuring of our league and the difficult out-of-league games we chose, it will be a challenging schedule.” However, Albano is optimistic and expects the demanding matches to prepare the Mounties for a successful post-season.
“We lost to the team that went to win the state finals” said junior Dagny Albano about the 2014 season’s semi finals, highlighting the achievements of last year’s group. Although the team lost four seniors to graduation, and this year Hope Willis is their only senior, they are still a strong and deep group, consisting of girls from all grades. Dagny Albano reflected that the Mounties have “a lot of good attackers this year that are returning,” and a lot of new talent as well, setting the team up for a season of dynamic teamwork. Already with an impressive 2015 season record of 4-2, Albano projects that the 2015 season will be a good one. Mt. Greylock Volleyball is looking forward to a season that will be, as Albano puts it, “buckets of fun.”
