On Thursday, March 10, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm the Mt. Greylock SEE (Sustaining Educational Excellence) Fund will be holding its annual Quiz Bowl and Telethon. 2016 is the eighth consecutive year of the Telethon and the SEE Fund’s twentieth year of operation.

The SEE Fund is a community funded trust which gives grants to projects within Mt. Greylock and the school district community that are not covered by the school’s annual budget. The board of the SEE Fund consists of community members and high schoolers, that evaluate the grants and give funding. The board will accept any grant proposal from anyone in the school community that “seeks to enhance and expand the learning environment,” according to the SEE Fund’s brochure.

Established in 1996, the SEE Fund was the first of its kind in Berkshire County. The community support for a new football stadium prompted community members to create a fund to subsidize special educational opportunities annually. “The guiding principles of the Fund have always stressed excellence, community pride, and family involvement,” said SEE Fund Board member John Gerry.  Junior Duffy Martin, currently in her second year on the board, said, “The SEE Fund has worked really hard for the betterment of not only Mt. Greylock, but the entire community.” Added Martin, “I like making a difference.” The SEE Fund recently provided a grant to maintain the trails that sports teams use around the school. The mulch and wooden raised trails around Second Loop were put in using the money that the SEE Fund provided. To participate in the Telethon and Quiz Bowl,  students may sign up at lunch before March, 10.
