Minor Leak in Middle School Water Line

The Mt. Greylock maintenance department found two minor leaks in a domestic, two-inch main water line, used for transporting cold water to drinking fountains and bathrooms, in the middle school hallway. The leaks originated from an old joint that construction workers installed when they built the the school in the 1960s. Students can see bare copper pipe where the leaks are and orange markers on ceiling tiles to mark where workers should avoid. The leaks’ water started spreading into the insulation and Facilities Supervisor Jesse Wirtes said, “I took all the insulation out, but we’re just letting it dry. Then it’s going to be a couple more weeks before it can be repaired.” The repairs are scheduled for April 6th, a half day for students.
