Greylock Musical at ’62 Center

Mt. Greylock actors put on Joe DiPietro’s Nice Work If You Can Get It on the evenings of March 18 and 19 at the Mainstage of the ‘62 Center for Theater and Dance at Williams College. The musical featured music by George and Ira Gershwin, such as the well known “Let’s Call the Whole Thing Off” and “S’ Wonderful.”

History teacher Jeffrey Welch completed another year as director of the musical. Jean Kirsch was the vocal director, Anne Marie Rodriguez directed the choreography, and Band teacher Lyndon Moors conducted the pit orchestra.

Junior Whit Ellingwood portrayed wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter. Senior Maggie Rorke was his soon to be wife Eileen Evergreen. Senior Nicole Jones, junior John Pfister, and sophomore Jacob Hane were the bootlegging gang of Billie Bendix, Cookie McGee, and Duke Mahoney, respectively. Sophomore Cedar Keys was Jeannie Muldoon, and junior Dan Shiek played Chief Berry. Senior Noach Savage portrayed the character of Senator Max Evergreen. Senior Molly Wilson played the Senator’s former lover, mother of Jimmy Winter, and famous bootlegger Brownbeard, Millicent Winter. Junior Jenna Benzinger acted the part of Estonia Dulworth, the Duchess of Woodford.

Welch said, “It couldn’t have gone better. We had big audiences. I’ve heard unqualified praise for the job students did. So I think they did a great job. It went very well.” He continued by explaining that “[The musical is] always a fulfilling experience. We have a lot of very talented individuals at Mt. Greylock who are also nice to work with and fun to work with.”

“I think it went very well,” said senior cast member Nicole Jones. “ A whole lot of people showed up both nights and that was very very exciting. They filled up to the second balcony both nights and the shows both went quite well. We had a very, very strong cast. It was one of the best if not the best cast that I’ve been in. This year we had a very different mix of people and new cast members who really brought a lot and were able to make the show what it was.”
