Boys’ Track Season Preview

Running

As spring sports approach the first competitions of the season, the Mt. Greylock Boy’s Track and Field team is eager to get outside and train. Last year, the boys graduated 12 seniors who all brought valuable points to the team. In long distance running events; Carter Stripp, Jake and Sam Kobrin, and Thomas Schoorlemmer all graduated. In shorter running events and jumping events, the team lost key scorers Taylor Carlough and Ryan Benoit. But it is not who left last year but who is returning this year that will make a difference, said senior captain Sam Swoap, “We’ve got another strong track team and our jumps and throws are going to be competitive.”

Their record last year was 3-4 in County meets and are entering the campaign looking for their first Western Mass. title since 2006. Coach Courtney Randall believes that this year is full of new challenges for the team, “What we have now is an opportunity for people to step into roles and step up.” Added Randall, “Our team goal for this year is to have a winning season which means the team will have to step forward as individuals and cohesively as a team.” Their first meet is a scrimmage against Hoosac Valley on Thursday, April 14.
