Benzinger Scores 1000th Point

In the Mt. Greylock girls’ basketball team’s 59-32 win over Narragansett, Jenna Benzinger scored the 1000th point of her varsity basketball career. The basket that gave her the milestone came on a post-up play in the third quarter. Benzinger scored 24 points in the game and became the 5th player in Greylock history to reach 1000 points.  Benzinger hopes to continue her basketball career at Brown University next year.

The team had a 14-6 record in the regular season behind a solid starting rotation of Freshman Madison Ross, Sophomore Maddie Albert, Junior Lauren Howard, Senior Sarah Stripp, and Benzinger.  Sadly, the seventh-seeded Mountie girls lost in the quarterfinals to an undefeated, second-seeded South Hadley team, ending their season.  Last year, Greylock upset South Hadley in the quarterfinals but they were unable to repeat their victory. The season ended with a loss, but overall the team played well in the tough Berkshire County, including a win against Division 2 powerhouse Pittsfield.
