Boys’ Lacrosse Finishes Impressive Season

From March to June, the boys’ lacrosse team had a memorable season with a record of 15-5. Captains Ethan Schoorlemmer, Cole Seamen, and David Falk led the team to many victories, especially against their rival, Wahconah. Senior Hoby MacWhinnie states, “the most memorable game for me was the Wahconah game where we scored with thirty seconds remaining and won.” MacWhinnie also adds that it was one of his first games back after a shoulder injury that took him out of the beginning of the season. Going into the game with a lot of determination, MacWhinnie scored three goals and two assists. Another impressive game this season was the defeat of Amherst with a score of 12-5. Many younger players, including freshmen Alex Falk and Nick Belouin, stepped up their game this season with many goals of their own.

Already with a remarkable season, the boys qualified for the Western/Central Massachusetts tournament and were seeded third. They had an exciting first round of Western Mass. with a 24-5 win against the McCann Hornets. Both junior Sean Malloy and MacWhinnie had hat tricks within the first eleven minutes of the game. The boys made it to the quarterfinals, but unfortunately lost to Hoosac Valley. After the game, MacWhinnie said that “of course I wish the game had a different outcome, but I am extremely proud of our team and how far we made it.”

As the departing seniors reflect on their high school lacrosse careers, they feel very confident with the team that they are leaving behind and believe that it will continue to go far in the years to come. Senior captain Cole Seamen states that “I am most definitely going to miss all the kids at Greylock next year when I’m at college, but I’m definitely going to come back to games and practices and be a proud alumni.” Although the seniors’ departure is a loss for the team, the underclassmen are looking forward to dominate in tournament next year.
