Boys’ Basketball Earns Early Season Wins
The boys’ varsity basketball team has opened up a successful season with two resounding wins. The first was against Greenfield last Tuesday with a 49-31 score, in which freshman Derek Paris made his Varsity debut, leading the team with 21 points. Paris has been playing basketball for several years now, and will greatly contribute to the team’s offense throughout the rest of the season. Trailing behind Paris is junior captain Toby Foehl who scored 16 points. Heading into this season, Foehl sits with about 500 points, an impressive number to have at the start of his junior season. Both Paris and Foehl made three 3-pointers in the first game.
The team’s second game was against South Hadley, which was another success to add in the books. The team won 57-45, with Foehl leading the team with 27 points. His co-captain, Senior Evan Sheridan, scored 10 points. Sheridan, who is a defender, is one of the four seniors on the team, alongside Zeke Locklear, David Falk, and Michael Wellspeak. Falk and Wellspeak, experiencing their first year on the team, both have been doing well and according to Wellspeak, are “enjoying their time on the team so far.” Coach Thistle, who is on his eighth year of coaching the team, is “impressed with the overall teamwork of the new faces and returning players working together.” Last year, the team’s record was 14-6. The team hopes to reach this again.
The boys will host Sabis this Tuesday at 6:30.
