The Mount Greylock Student Council is making strides on multiple fronts this academic year. With projects ranging from the reintroduction of the vending machines to the creation of a Canvas page to share important information, the council has several promising initiatives underway.
One of the most anticipated developments is the return of vending machines to the school. According to student council vice-president Polly Rhie, the council is actively “in the process of looking for one.” Once purchased, it will be run by the council and be available for students to buy snacks from during break and after school.
Another initiative involves encouraging usage of the school’s abundant outdoor spaces for learning. “We’re trying to advocate for more teachers to use the outdoor classroom space,” said Rhie.
The Greylock Talks subcommittee is working on organizing some speakers, including collaborations with other clubs like math league. Rhie emphasized that “if any students have ideas for talks, they’re able to reach out to [the subcommittee].”
The council has also produced a Canvas page to share information with the student body. In addition to posting nurse hours and initiative updates, the page contains the Chromebook Background contest. Once all the images are submitted, the student body will be able to choose new, grade-specific backgrounds.
Looking ahead, the council has plans to put on a winter pep rally and increase resources for the college application process. “We’re hoping to work with the guidance counselors and guidance office to allow more accessibility for seniors with meetings, or juniors with college planning or future planning, especially around college essay help,” said senior Charlotte Holubar.
With these various initiatives underway, the student council continues to be actively involved in all aspects of student and educational life at the school. As the school year progresses, students should continue to keep an eye out for the student council’s projects, and are encouraged to participate in the conversations, talks and events put on.
