The Student Council has had a busy year thus far, but the wheels will keep on turning.
At the beginning of October, Student Council held its first ever Boo Bash. There was a mix of dancing, carnival games, live music, and even a haunted walk. The party was widely considered to be a success.
Sophomore Student Council member Cole Creighton said, “I think that the Boo Bash was really something [we] feel good about.”
The Boo Bash was followed up by an equally successful tissue drive. This was an example of the new tactic of posing fundraisers as competitions. The winner of this one was Ms. Case’s eighth grade directed study, bringing in around 70 boxes alone.
More recently, Student Council hosted the second pep rally of the year. This featured a “red out” theme where all students were instructed to wear red. The event included games between grades, such as musical chairs and mat sledding.
On Thursday, February 11th, Student Council will hold a meeting to discuss future initiatives. For example, Creighton said that they were hoping to open up tutoring positions for upperclassmen. As of right now, Williams Students are often available for tutoring, but student council is trying to allow students in grades 11 and 12 to tutor as well.
Another goal is to get donations of Princeton Review and other test prep books for students. Creighton said the idea was to take the heavy financial burden of text books off students.
While many people see the Student Council as a group who organizes fundraisers and pep rallies, Creighton sees it in a different light.
“We’ve boosted school morale,” said Creighton. “And I think that’s something that’s a little unknown about Student Council, that’s another key importance of it.”
