Girls Lacrosse Ousts Nipmuc in First Round
On June 3, the Mount Greylock Girls Lacrosse team kicked off their Central/Western Massachusetts Division II Tournament with a first round matchup against Nipmuc Regional High School out of central Massachusetts. Going into the game, the Mounties were seeded fourth and Nipmuc was seeded thirteenth. The Mounties went into the tournament with a five game winning streak and it was evident from the first whistle. They quickly jumped to a 5-1 lead and extended it to eight by half time. The game ended 17-7 in the Mounties favor with sophomore Sarah Stripp scoring seven and adding three assists. Freshman Emma Polumbo had three goals as did senior Lucy Barrett. Barrett left the game briefly in the first half with a leg injury, but returned later. Junior Ariana Walden had two goals with freshman Lauren Howard, junior Maggie Rorke, and senior Kelsey Orpin each adding one. Senior goalie Sam MacWhinnie had 14 saves in the contest. With this win, the Mounties advance to the quarter-finals where they will face fifth seeded Groton-Dunstable.
