A new Program of Studies was announced for the coming 2019-2020 school year, with four brand new classes and seven classes that are back in rotation. These classes are offered for High Schoolers, with grade variations dependent upon the class.
The brand new classes include Glass Fusing, Mosaics, Portfolio Photography, and Works of Shakespeare. Portfolio Photography is for students who which to go beyond advanced digital photography and focus more intensively on that subject.
Students are required to have taken studio art before taking glass fusing or Mosaics. Intro to Theatre Arts is going to be offered to ninth and tenth graders next year but juniors and seniors may be able to fit it into their schedule.
Many courses are coming back into rotation this year as well, meaning that they have been taught prior to the 2019-2020 school year. The courses are AP Physics; America, Vietnam & the 1960s; Painting; Intro to Theatre Arts; AP Latin; the American Political System; and Newspaper Production.
AP physics will replace AP chemistry. The two sciences switch off each year, with one being taught one year and the other being taught the next. AP Latin will replace the Latin V that was taught this year.
Newspaper Production has in the past served as the online staff of the Echo. The class is now open to non members as well, although they will be learning how the Echo itself is publicized.
Students are meeting with guidance counselors this week to input their 2019-2020 course requests into the computer system.
