The Mount Greylock girls basketball team was victorious 58-34 over Monument Mountain, snapping a three game skid and pushing their record to 5-5. The Mounties were led by Tanley Drake who scored 17, including 13 in the first half.
Coach John Jacobbe entered the game hoping to “get out and run a little on the fast break because [they] are working on their half court offense.” Jacobbe’s plan worked well, giving the Mounties a four point lead after the first quarter. Greylock was able to extend their lead in the second thanks to five points from A.J. Pelkey and entered the half with a 29-20 lead.
Coming out of the break, Monument cut the lead to five with a quick 4-0 run but the Greylock responded with a 9-0 run of their own. The score margin stayed deadlocked at 14 for the remainder of the quarter. Then the Mounties put the game out of reach at the start of the fourth quarter with big baskets from captains Maddie Powell and Mia Filiault.
Greylock will look to get above .500 with a win on Monday at Drury.
