On Tuesday, November 4, Camille A. Brown led a dance workshop during blocks four and five for sophomores, juniors and seniors. Brown is a dancer, choreographer, director and dance educator from the Camille A. Brown & Dancers company. Students were put through dance routines, helping them to understand Brown’s modern dancing style, which has been praised for its portrayal of race and feminist issues. Later that evening, Brown put that style on display in a performance at the 62’ Center for Theatre and Dance at Williams College. Junior Hannah Fein attended both the workshop and the evening performance. “It was really fun to be taught by a professional dancer,” said Fein. “I especially enjoyed seeing the techniques she was teaching us at the workshop performed in concert. As a dancer, it was also very informative to hear what being a professional dancer is like from her.” After her time in Williamstown, Brown will continue to work on Black Girl, a dance production that will premiere in 2015.
