On January 10, the Mt. Greylock Boys Nordic skiing team had their second race of the year at Prospect Mountain in Vermont. On this brisk Saturday morning, the Greylock boys took hold of eight of the top ten slots. Coming in 1st overall for the second straight race was Greylock’s Will Nolan with an impressive time of 25:44. Behind Nolan in 2nd and 3rd was Greylock’s Ian Culnane with a time of 25:48, and Northfield Mount Hermon’s Estevan Velez with a time of 25:53. In the team standings, Greylock came in first with 12 points, NMH second with 37 points, while Amherst edged out Wahconah 60 to 63. Senior captain Will Nolan spoke on behalf of his team’s preparation for the past couple races. He said, “Skiing is the best preparation. We do whatever we can to find snow whether it be at Prospect or somewhere else in Vermont.” Obviously Greylock’s preparation has paid off considering their dominance in their first two races. In the first race for the Mounties, they took hold of 7 of the top ten spots. Placing in the top three were Nolan, junior Matthew Wiseman, and senior Jake Kobrin. In the team standings, Greylock placed first with 11 points, Amherst second with 45, and Lenox in third with 72. The Mounties stand at 2-0 on the year and look to continue their dominance. Their next race will be this Saturday, January 17, which will be held at Mt Greylock.
