After a successful season last year, going undefeated in Berkshire County and winning States, the girl’s cross country skiing team’s season quickly approaches. Although the team lost Niku Darafshi, who was victorious in the last race of the Berkshire County Nordic League last year, coaches Hilary and Hiram Greene, along with seniors Emma Polumbo, Bella Bote, and Tenley Smith, will provide excellent leadership for the current season. Additions of running phenoms Jackie and Lilly Wells will only add to the team’s chances of success. Junior Margo Smith, who won a race in last February’s Berkshire County Nordic League, comments on the team, explaining that “we have outstanding coaches and really strong team unity. We all work together to help each other get stronger.”

Utilizing this teamwork, they hope to win States again and go undefeated again. Polumbo describes some of the goals the team shares, saying that “we certainly have enough talent and drive to get us [to the state championship], but it is never a guarantee, so we have lots of hard work ahead of us.” With high hopes and expectations, they will start the competitive season with their first race on December 30, at Prospect Mountain.
