Boys’ Soccer Has Successful Week

Soccer

Like most Greylock sports teams, MG boys’ soccer generally shreds through its competition in style, and this past week was no exception. They came into the week with a dominating record of 7-1-1, undefeated in the Berkshires, and extended it to 9-1-1 when they beat Chicopee and Wahconah by a good margin, 4-2 and 2-0 respectively. The impressive part is that the team has been winning games without “a deep bench” as senior captain and center back David Majetich put it; he said that because of a shortage in depth “the underclassmen are key players, and we need them to perform well, which they have done this year, rising to the occasion when it really mattered.” Freshman forward and prodigy Sam Dils also mentioned that “a solid back line and well coordinated midfield” has been key to the team’s success this season.

The major challenges left in the regular season are Ludlow and Longmeadow, the former being one of the best teams in Western Mass, but given the way they are playing, the Mounties will be heading into these games full of confidence. According to Dils, Belchertown, Monument, and Hampshire are the main competition for the Western Mass title,of which the latter two Greylock beat in shutout victories earlier this season.
